Contrary to tropical plant waters, our tap water signi-ficantly lacks certain nutrients. Many essential plant nutrients and trace elements are missing or are extracted from the water during treatment in the waterworks. Yet
if so much as one nutrient is missing, the plants stop growing and may even die (Liebig’s Law of the Minimum). In order to ensure a healthy plant growth in the aquarium, the nutrient gap in our tap water must be filled and
the water enriched so that tap water becomes good aquarium water.
It is crucial here that the nutrients are in a very specific proportion to each other.
What makes solving this problem so difficult are certain “critical nutrients”, especially iron and a number of trace elements. They are only required in
tiny amounts. In aquaria, they must not be given for days and weeks in advance, such as when changing the water. This situation is made even more difficult by the fact that various trace elements are not used by the plants but are precipitated through chemical reactions. Because of this, fertilizing plants in the aquarium has always encountered particular problems.
Dupla solves all the nutrient problems by providing an ideally balanced
Plant Care System.
